Pumpkin Lollipops

This is one of those things that happens when you read the email from the ballet teacher a couple of hours before the party. At the bottom she kindly mentioned that it would be nice if the kids brought treats to share. What?!?! This called for an emergency trip to the Dollar store where I got a bag of lollipops, a roll of orange streamers and some green ribbon. Fifteen minutes later (and for only $3!) I present you the treat my daughter will be sharing at ballet this afternoon.

It doesn't get easier than this... I'll share the process in case you are in a bind at some point this week and have to make an emergency treat. Cut some ribbon, you'll need three strips per "pumpkin".

Cut some strips of orange streamer, you'll need four per "pumpkin".

Lay the strips of streamer in a "snowflake" fashion and place the lollipop of top. Gather up all the streamers and scrunch (is that a word? I hope so!) them at the top.

Attach three pieces of ribbon around and tie them into a simple knot.

Use your scissors to curl the ribbon (my kids were fascinated by this step!)

I present to you the "Pumpkin Lollipop". Enjoy!!!

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies EVER

These are the #1 most requested cookies in my house. My husband likes to think of himself as a chocolate chip cookie connoisseur and has proclaimed these as the best chocolate chip cookies ever. They are cakey, not crisp. They are buttery and very chocolaty. Need I say more?

The recipe is by Martha Stewart and available HERE, although I originally got it from her Cookies book which is one of my favorites. My family likes them really "cakey" so we take them out promptly at the 10 minute mark. I can't vouch for how long they last since I don't think they've ever made it past 48 hours in my house. They make a fantastic mid-afternoon pick me up with a cup of tea (or milk if you are 4 and just got home from school!) Enjoy!

Girly Appliqued Onesies

Along with the Strawberry Knit Hat that I showed you a couple of days ago, I also made a couple of appliqued onesies for my friend's baby shower. I love making these onesies because they are easy to tailor to different individuals and are always well received. And let's be honest, a baby can never have too many onesies!

The princess crown was a given as my friend is having her first girl, and everyone is already calling her princess.

The strawberry is to go along with my current obsession and because I thought it matched the hat nicely.

These onesies are so easy to make! I use my Cricut to cut out the shapes, and then simply do a decorative stitch around with some embroidery thread. It would probably be easier and faster to do the stitches by machine, but I like the way the handmade ones look.

Lastly I would have liked to make an initial one like this one I made for my friend's son, but princess doesn't have a name yet. So that one will have to wait until she's born!

Strawberry Fields

I am currently obsessed with strawberries. I think it might be because my daughter has chosen Strawberry Shortcake as the theme for her birthday party. There are plans and strawberry drawings all over our house. This morning during brunch she actually drew a picture of what she wants her cake to look like, so cute!

Last week I had a baby shower for a friend and decided to make a strawberry hat. This isn't unusual as I typically make these when my friends have kids. Strawberries for girls and blueberries for boys. However this time I wanted the strawberry to be pink, and this soft baby yarn was perfect. I packed it up along with two onesies that I'll tell you more about in a couple of days. I think it was a pretty cute gift and now I have orders for two more strawberry hats... one for my daughter, and another one for her American Girl doll.
