Cupcake Fun

Tomorrow is the final day for the Cupcake Challenge over at Hoosier Homemade and it's been a blast. For the last week I decided to do a wrap-up of the cupcakes I made for the challenge. It's been great fun stepping away from the usual and making some exciting creations. The kids have had a blast and it seems like the perfect week for it to end since school is starting soon.

Week one was Taste. I entered the Sunflower Cupcakes that I made using Oreo cookies.

Week two was Summertime Fun. I made Popcorn Cupcakes because going to the movies was one of our favorite summer activities.

Week three was Cake Mix. I decided to try a new technique and made Chocolate Mousse-filled cupcakes.

Week four was Candy. I made Corney Cupcakes which were vanilla cupcakes covered with multi-colored jelly beans.

This was a great challenge that made me step out of my comfort zone and try some new things... thank you Hoosier Homemade!!!

American Girl Knockoff Couch

This might not be a crafty thing per se, but I had to share my amazing find. This was a great example of karma at it's best. The kids and I cleaned out the toy room and delivered several bags full of toys to Goodwill. While there, I noticed this couch. I immediately knew it would be perfect for my daughter's American Girl doll. The price tag said $5 but I noticed a chip on one of the legs, so I asked if I could get a discount. They sold it to me for $2!!!

I don't love the fabric but LOVE the shape, so we might do some work to it. My husband is going to fix the chip in the wood. My daughter couldn't be happier and Rebeccah (her AG doll) loves it!

What have you found lately? I love a good deal!

Corney Cupcakes

This is the last week for the Cupcake Challenge on Hoosier Homemade, and the theme is candy. I had to post about these Corney Cupcakes I made recently for a BBQ because they were a hit.

The inspiration was the "Corn on the Cob" cupcakes from my favorite book Hello, Cupcake!

My version is made with funfetti cupcakes, creamy butter cream frosting and assorted jellybeans. I let the kids pick the jelly beans and they seem to recall that the corn we buy isn't always all yellow, so they got different shades.

I didn't have black decorating sugar for the "pepper" or square candy for the "butter", but am still happy with how they turned out. I set them all up in a basket on the buffet table and everyone was very impressed!

Washcloth Apron

One of my favorite things in the world is listening to my children play and use their imagination. As I mentioned in another post, they decided to open a pretend restaurant. Typically my daughter acts as the chef while my son is the waiter. They take turns doing the dishes and thus the reason for the washcloth aprons.

I simply took a washcloth and attached a ribbon to the top so that they could tie it around their waist. The size is perfect for them! I added an applique (matching the ribbon) and did some detailing around the edge.

This is a close-up of the applique which I had a blast making!

Here it is in action! They also have a play kitchen in the backyard, so I might need to make them a set of aprons to keep there. Although they just pretend to wash dishes, they love "drying" their hands on their apron when they are done. So cute!
