Pier One Knockoff Easter Bunny Dishtowel

A couple of days ago I got the Easter Pier One catalog and immediately fell in love with the Easter dishtowels on page 18. I knew I could do something similar for cheaper than their price ($6.99 ea), so I pulled out some supplies and got started. These dishtowels are from the dollar store, and the rest of the things are from my stash. So the total cost for this project was $1.

Supplies: Dishtowels from dollar store, scrap fabric, buttons, ric rac.

This was the label on the dishtowels for easy identification if anyone is looking for them.

Sew on the buttons and draw the lines for the whiskers and mouth with washable marker.

Sew on the whiskers and mouth and check the placement for the ears.

Next pin the fabric to the bottom and sew.

Pin the ric rac and sew. Attach ears after this step (forgot to take a picture!).

Here is my finished dishtowel. I love my little bunny and think I will add the polka dot fabric to the two green dishtowels and set them on either side of this one for a little accent.

Marble Magnets

My inspiration for craft projects seems to go in phases... right now I am back and forth between sewing and glue-related projects. Remember these scrappy magnets? I love them so much that I decided to make some more. However, I decided to use a different technique for the second batch.



I decided to try my hand at these which are made with glass marbles that you can buy at the dollar store. I went through my scrapbooking stash and found several things I liked and started cutting. As you can see, I went with animals and initials.

This project was almost a big FAIL though... so I'll share my tip. Buy the big magnets. I tried these little guys and they did not work out. First I used one, then two and then I went to the craft store and bought the bigger ones and those worked like a charm. (Sorry those aren't pictured, at the time of the "photo shoot" the doubled-up little ones seemed to work!)

The animal-themed ones are going to a friend who is having a rough time right now and needs a pick-me-up. I packaged them up in a jewelry bag and sent them off to her- I hope they make her smile.

The ones with the initials are for my family. We recently started setting "Weekly Goals" and I think these will help us remember those throughout the week. Besides, they're cute.

These would make a really cute Mother's Day present! And don't worry about the little magnets, I already have another project in mind for them. Stay tuned!

Scrappy Magnets

My fridge has been out of control lately. It was covered in pictures, kid's drawings, birth announcements, shopping lists, etc. I couldn't stand it any longer so I took everything off this morning and filed it away. I then realized that I had 20 "promotional" type magnets that were making things look very messy it bothered me that they didn't match. I remembered an idea I had seen to cover those magnets in fabric and decided to try it with some clearance scrapbook paper that I picked up at Target the other day. This whole project cost a couple of cents as I only used a little paper from the pack I got for a quarter, and everything else I had on hand (mod podge) or was free (magnets).



I traced the magnets on the paper and then applied a thin coat of mod podge to glue both together. At this point it is important to smooth the paper down so you don't get any wrinkles, it also helps to use a very thin coat of the mod podge. Once that is dry, trim the excess edges.



I applied three more coats of mod podge letting them dry for about 45 in between each application. I don't have pictures of this because I was alone and couldn't figure out how to do both things at once. Once they dried I immediately put them to use and I'm so excited at how well they work and they are cute too!



I will definitely try this with fabric as well!
