Knockoff Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair

For years I have wanted to buy these Pottery Barn Anywhere chairs for my kids. Even though I knew they would love them, I just couldn't justify the price. A couple of months ago I was reading a blog and came across this pattern. I bought it instantly, even though I hadn't started my sewing class and wasn't sure if I would be able to complete it. Here's the end result... what do you think?

This was not an easy project and took me about 5 days to complete. I can only sew when my kids are sleeping, so basically I work a couple of hours a day between nap time and bedtime. My sewing teacher helped me get the pattern together during the last class and my husband helped me with the foam inserts.

I love the features of the chair like the handle and the top and the pocket in the back. The cover fits really well, although perhaps I should have ironed it a bit before taking these pictures.

I encountered a few things along the way that I didn't love and will probably modify when I make the next one. However, I highly recommend this pattern.

My daughter loved it and has named it her "reading chair". She picked the fabric for it, which matches her bedding and curtains, and it looks great in her room. I need to get working on one for my son soon!

Oh wow, you did an amazing job! So was your class teaching you how to sew or teaching you how to sew slipcovers? I wish I could sew! Thanks for linking up today.

Oh, I love it!! Great job. I sympathize with you on finding the time to craft, it's tough to balance it all. My preschooler just entered the room and said, "Did you notice something?? You haven't played with me this morning in a LONG time!! (it's been about 20minutes). :-)

I used to work at PBK and thought pretty much everything in the store was ridiculously priced (not to mention the snotty co-workers), but I will say I got tons of ideas of things I could make myself- these will get added to the list!

This is awesome and since there is no way I'll ever ever be able to make one maybe I finally will have to plunk down the money for a PBKids one. Or should I say, ask Grandma to plunk down the moola for E's birthday. Love it.

You did a beautiful job! I made the couch from this pattern and I stuffed it with fiberfill. Because I'm stupid. Foam looks like it would work so much better. My daughters loved that couch to death.

I'm impressed! Beautiful job and even better that she claimed it for her reading chair.

I tried to follow your link to the pattern but it is no longer working. Would it be possible for you to share the name of the Etsy shop? I am desperately needing to sew a new cover for my daughter's PB chair!

Thanks!

I am in the same situation. I need TWO pottery barn chairs. I have a mccall pattern but it looks overwhelming. How much do you think it cost you? I'm weighing out whether it is cost effective or not (not to mention time) Thanks and LOOKS GREAT! You can comment on your page (I don't have google account) I save your page to favorites

I'm SOOoOOOOoo happy I found you blog and this post. I found that pattern on Etsy and ordered it just now!!

Looks fantastic!

Anonymous: I did the math and you would only save money if you bought everything on sale. Otherwise between the materials and the time you don't save a lot of money. However, it is very rewarding to make (at least for me) and I loved picking the fabrics to match my kid's room.

Michelle: YAY!
