The minute I saw this cake, I knew I had to make it for Father's Day. At the time I thought that with two fondant classes completed I would be ready to tackle something of that magnitude. I was wrong. Welcome to "bubbly-bumpy fondant city"!
In our first two clases we have only worked with fondant to make bows and flowers. I learned this morning that covering a cake with fondant is not as easy as it seems. Furthermore, I decided to make my own fondant and while it tasted fantastic, it was definitely a tad harder to work with than the store bought variety. But let me focus on the positives.
My 2 year old thoroughly enjoyed rolling out the fondant and my four year old had a blast making and placing the polka dots. Papa was very surprised and LOVED it! I used Devil's food cake, butter cream frosting and homemade marshmallow fondant. It might have not looked perfect, but it tasted GREAT!
Thanks for your visit! I hope all the Dad's out there had a fantastic day.

Love the Father's Day Cake!
Thanks for dropping by 3 jewels.
I had spent about 1/12 hours making a fondant monkey for a cake one evening. The next morning I awoke to just the head left. I guess my 6 year old ate the body! lol
Maybe, just maybe if I have any spare time in my life, I'll sign up for a class or two. I find it very theraputic to make cakes even though they aren't anything special to look at. Love eating them though!
You did GREAT! It all comes with practice! Your comment at mackenziescraftymom.blogspot.com has made me decide that my next cake tutorial will be on covering a cake with fondant.
I have always found that Satin Ice fondant tastes good and is easy to work with! (and you can buy it precolored - saves so much time!!)
Super cute! I saw you at SSB's Mad Skills Monday
This turned out cute & I know what you mean about covering cakes - it looks A LOT easier than it is! Thanks for linking to Craftastic Monday & I'd love for you to add this to the CraftShare Flickr pool, since this week is all about cake decorating:)
What a cute idea, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to tackle fondant:o)
Wow, you've got some serious cake-makin' talent! Love the tie, and I bet your hubby did, too!
