American Girl Doll Pool Dress

Can a girl ever have too many dresses? :) After the success of the last dress I made for my daughter's American Girl doll Rebecca, I decided to try my hand at another one.

This one started off as a baby t-shirt from the Dollar Store.

I washed it, turned it inside out and pinned according to Rebecca's shape. I tried to carefully follow the pins while giving the dress a cute shape. I loved the fact that I didn't have to hem it!

I had initially thought of making simple ties for the sleeves but then decided to make a nicer collar. The sleeves ended up being more like those on a tank top and the collar is very stretchy, so it's easy to put on and take off.

My daughter thinks it's perfect for going to the pool and now wants me to make Rebecca a bathing suit!

I also made her a matching headband with some ribbon I had leftover from another project. I will be making her many more of those as they hold her hair back very nicely and my daughter can put them on her easily.

American Girl Knockoff Couch

This might not be a crafty thing per se, but I had to share my amazing find. This was a great example of karma at it's best. The kids and I cleaned out the toy room and delivered several bags full of toys to Goodwill. While there, I noticed this couch. I immediately knew it would be perfect for my daughter's American Girl doll. The price tag said $5 but I noticed a chip on one of the legs, so I asked if I could get a discount. They sold it to me for $2!!!

I don't love the fabric but LOVE the shape, so we might do some work to it. My husband is going to fix the chip in the wood. My daughter couldn't be happier and Rebeccah (her AG doll) loves it!

What have you found lately? I love a good deal!

American Girl : Rebecca's Back-to-School Dress

This is Rebecca, an American Girl doll, and she is going back to school soon. My daughter wanted her to have a special dress for the occasion, so I decided to try my hand at making her one. Anyone who knows anything about American Girl dolls will tell you that the clothes and accessories can get quite expensive. I decided to use an old dress that no longer fit my daughter in case things didn't work out.

If anyone is interested, I can do a tutorial with pictures. However, I basically just traced one of her dresses onto my daughter's old dress. My daughter wanted it to be "twirly", so I had to adjust for that when cutting. This was the first time I ever used a knit fabric which definitely added a level of difficulty.

My daughter loved the end result and put it on Rebecca before I really finished it. If you look closely you'll see some threads I didn't get to cut and even a little maker on the edges that I wasn't able to wash off. Silly girl says Rebecca needs a dress for each day of the week. I'm going to try to create a pattern in order to streamline the process. But what's important is that Rebecca is now ready to go back to American Girl school with all her other doll friends!
