Stars & Stripes Outfits

These are the outfits I made for the kids to wear for the 4th of July festivities. We were so busy that weekend, that I didn't get to take any pictures before they wore them. I finally got some today (although please excuse the horrible light) and thought I would post them for my own archives. Better late than never, right?

My daughter really enjoys wearing A-line dresses,so we went with that again. She picked this fabric as she is obsessed with stars at the moment. The pattern I used is New Look 6504 (View B), which I already used for her Sparkly Butterfly Dress. The red accents, which shelso picked, make the dress very girlie and patriotic.

My son just got the basic matching shorts which he wore with a navy blue polo. I love these shorts on him because they fit perfectly and I don't need to pull them up every five minutes. They are Burda pattern (#9639) which I previously used for these patchwork shorts.

Fruity Star Cake

Happy 4th of July!!!

I hope everyone had a great day celebrating this wonderful country's birthday. We spent the day with friends, eating good food and watching the kids play. This is the cake I made to bring to our friends' house along with some other goodies that I'll post about later this week.

This was a simple star-shaped vanilla cake covered in whipped frosting with fruit on top. The organic strawberries were so juicy you can see they dripped on the stars I piped down the side.

Kiddie Flags

The Stars cake wasn't the only 4Th of July craft around our house. We also made flags per the kids request to "decorate for the holiday". They were easy to make and look great on our back window.

We started by making lines on a white piece of paper. We ended up making them wider than in this picture to make it easier for the little guy.

We glued a piece of blue paper. Coincidentally, my 2 year old son is the king of the glue stick- he loves it!

Notice the different styles, my daughter is very careful when working on any craft.

I cut out strips of paper and my daughter then cut them into squares. We started off with a pretty big pile of them.

And then we started creating the red stripes by gluing down our red squares.

As you can see, some were more neat than others.

When the 2-year-old's attention span was about done, he brought out his hammer and had a blast securing the red squares.

Non-hammered down stripes.

We couldn't find a star stamp, so we made one!

Loaded...

And stamp away! This was their favorite part.

TA DA!!! Happy 4Th of July!!!
